Animation Deep Dive with Fyero Studio
Fyero is a creative studio based in Spain, run by designer Rafa and animator Carlos. Specialising in motion graphics and visual identity, you will also find Fyero developing illustration, infographic and packaging projects. With 10 years experience in the industry, Fyero have worked on projects with world heavyweights such as Twitter, Vodafone, Samsung and Santander.
- What makes animation a powerful tool for communication?
Animation can bring life to everything and anything! Any object, animal or idea can become a character. Animation is a powerful tool for communication because it can give us new points of view to tell stories! The great animator, Émile Cohl, said once: “Don’t do what a camera can do, do what a camera can’t do”. And we think If you do this, you have the real power of animation.
2. How do you think the past year and Covid -19 has affected the animation industry?
Maybe the animation “macro-industry” suffered a serius setback, but the smaller studios have been able to work on many new creative processes. In this sense, all setbacks can become opportunities.
3. What does an average day in the life look like for you?
Right now we are teleworking so everyone has their own habits. So a typical day at Fyero Studio is a day with great flexibility and time for creativity. Usually the team meet first thing in the morning by video call in order to organize work and then … every day is different.
4. What is your favourite thing about being an animator and why?
Animation allows us to feel with the power of “gods” in our characters and projects. We are essentially the creators of personalities, characters, landscapes and entire worlds… This is our favourite thing; feeling the freedom for creating all those aspects.
5. What advice do you have for aspiring animators?
Patience and effort. With hard work comes the rewards. If you are constant in your efforts to achieve your dreams, sooner or later you will achieve it. Accept criticism and learn everything you can from the people around you.
6. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Stay curious. Observe. Watch. Look. It’s always in the movement. Watch for details of how things move. This is how you will learn.
